Photonic Market Focus Medical Technology

For Manufacturers of Surgical Microscopes
As a trusted partner to surgical microscope manufacturers, PHOTONIC has developed a range of advanced lighting solutions for complex surgical applications. Our highly skilled developers have designed and produced complete fiber-coupled light sources based on xenon and LED technology. Additionally, we have integrated multi-channel LED-laser hybrid systems directly into surgical microscopes, enhancing performance and precision.
Surgical microscopes play a crucial role in microsurgery, where accurate color reproduction is essential. PHOTONIC’s white light solutions for minimally invasive surgery meet stringent medical standards, delivering exceptional color fidelity with high CRI/Ra values.
Moreover, fluorescence-guided surgery benefits from the selective excitation of fluorescent drugs at specific wavelengths, allowing for clearer differentiation between healthy and diseased tissue. PHOTONIC’s specialized lighting solutions enable precise wavelength generation and filtering across the UV-VIS-NIR spectrum, driving innovation in precision medicine.
Type and Direction of Lighting: Key to Optimal Imaging
Three approaches are used to achieve optimal image contrast:
Incident light—using either a ring light [1] or a spot light [2]—offers the highest light intensity with maximum flexibility and a wide range of lighting options. The third approach, transmitted light [3], provides additional contrast enhancement.

LED Direct Lighting
One advantage of PHOTONIC LED ring lights is the ability to switch specific sections on or off, allowing for segmented lighting control. This feature enables both homogeneous illumination and directional lighting, enhancing contrast and depth perception in microscopy. Additionally, the controlled formation of shadows improves the visibility of surface textures.
The latest innovation in this category is the High-Power Ring Light (HPRL), which features eight high-power LEDs for intense illumination over the working area. Other options include external controllers with light heads, such as the High Power Spot and ring lights with 40 or 80 LEDs, catering to various lighting needs and working distances.
Fibre Optic Light Sources
Fibre optic gooseneck or flexible light guides, combined with an external light source, are ideal for lenses with short working distances and high-contrast applications. These light guides can be positioned at different angles to achieve diverse contrast levels, enhancing image clarity.
This category includes LED light sources such as the F1, F3000, and F5100. A variety of fibre optic accessories are available, including ring lights, flexible light guides in multiple lengths and diameters, and combination light guides that can be mounted to the microscope column using specialized adapters.
